Director of Engineering

Responsible for the design, development and support of GND products in the inertial measurement unit (IMU), inertial navigation system (INS), and the stabilized line-of-sight (LOS) product lines. The reporting departmental functions include inertial sensors (accelerators and gyros), electronics, systems and software, mechanical packaging, test equipment, configuration management and design drafting. Engineering is responsible for engineering tasks and supporting processes for all GND products across the product life cycle including concept feasibility, independent research and development (IRAD), pre-proposal customer engagement, proposal generation, design, development, pre-production readiness, production transition, production support and obsolescence management.
Required Skills:
- Create and execute an engineering departmental strategy aligned with the growth vision
- Manage a team of seasoned managers that are subject matter experts in the inertial navigation fields
- Allocate resources to Programs in conjunction with the Director of Programs and manage quality and delivery of critical engineering program deliverables
- Build and/or develop the engineering team to support planned growth
- Work in harmony with the Sales and Marketing team and Product Line Managers in support of product line developments, both IRAD and customer funded.
- Understand federal government contracting, ITAR and licensing, TINA, and other relevant regulatory issues at a working level and apply them to decision making as appropriate.
- Have a career built on a solid engineering foundation in inertial navigation and have a passion for engineering unique differentiated solutions for aerospace, defense and critical commercial applications.
- Possess managerial courage to drive change throughout the department and other internal customers and suppliers.
- Understand CMMI, DO-178 and DO-254, and other critical process certifications required in the industry.
- Expected to travel 25% to 35% as required to various customer locations both domestic and international.

Education & Experience:
- 15 or more years’ experience with at least 10 years in aerospace and defense inertial engineering management
- Experience communicating and presenting to customer executive levels
- Significant proposal preparation and presentation experience
- Solid understanding of aerospace and defense markets
- Inertial navigation experience is a must
- Familiarity with ERP and MRP systems in an aerospace manufacturing environment
- Familiar with systems and software design, development and integration including D)-178, DO-254 and CMMI
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, advanced degree (MS and/or MBA) heavily preferred
US citizen with ability to work on US government programs and ability to obtain security clearance
