Support engineering and production staff in designing mechanical systems and components. Responsible for designing, testing, and managing tooling and fixtures for production processes.

Duties:

• Design and develop mechanical components, tooling, and systems in support of a variety of opto electronic programs and opto electronic assembly tasks
• Use Solidworks for design work
• Develop manufacturing drawings and bills of material for assemblies using standard drafting formatting
• Utilize a variety of different component manufacturing technologies including 3D printing, machining, extrusion, etc. based on requirements of design phase
• Work with engineering staff to assemble components and assemblies when parts arrive

Required skills:

• Understanding and experience in implementing design for manufacturing practices
• Familiarity and experience with 3D printing; both operating FDM printers and using outside services
• Familiarity with CNC machining operations and capabilities
• Ability to develop and propose solutions to complex material and mechanical problems
• Familiar with common hardware, components, materials, and fabrication practices used to develop ruggedized hardware
• Proficient at Solidworks and other CAD software
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Can work with defined requirements to complete tasks with minimal supervision
• Organized and methodical in design and organization

Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (advanced degrees a plus)
• 3+ years of experience in a similar environment / role
