Electrical Engineer

Develop the next generation of high-power industrial laser systems. High-speed, high quality metal machining and processing using a first-to-market class of high-power, high-performance blue lasers.
The successful candidate for this position will possess the following skills:
- Experience with high power analog circuit design, particularly high voltage DC power supplies and constant current circuits
- High level of competency with VHDL and C
- Able to design and use test script language such as Python to debug and test
- Experience working with Xilinx Zynq FPGAs and embedded Linux environment
- Familiar with real time operating systems concepts
- Experience with digital circuit design
- Experience with board layout, component selection, and circuit modeling
- Experience with testing and qualifying PCB assemblies and electro-optical assemblies
- Very strong technical background required, with experience in developing industrial systems (high power opto-electronics). Experience with industrial laser systems is strongly preferred
- Familiar with designing with protocols and devices using: I2C, UART, SPI, SDcard, Ethernet, RS232/RS485
- Familiar with industrial Ethernet protocols (e.g. ModBUS TCP, profiBUS, etherCAT)
- Experience with LabVIEW, Vivado, and MATLAB is a plus
- Experience with coordinating a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technicians, including proven ability to coordinate outside partners, subcontractors, consultants
Key responsibilities:
- Define and understand system level electronics requirements by interacting with the engineering, manufacturing and marketing teams
- Translate these into software and hardware requirements and maintain all related project documentation
- Design software and hardware system architecture to meet requirements and allow platform scalability
- Design and procure control PCBs and overall electrical architecture of laser systems
- Develop and maintain all design documentation, including proper revision control of all generated software through generation of engineering change orders
- Develop and implement test plans for validating code on hardware, and define design iterations with other levels of engineering to assure high level requirements are met
- Develop user documentation for system electronics
- Support the development of interface tools for implementation of new electronics on manufacturing floor. Train engineering, manufacturing and applications teams to use of all developed hardware
- Provide technical support to field engineers to facilitate system debugging at customer site as needed
- Work with a multidisciplinary team of outside contractors for the design, development, and verification of embedded software, FPGA code, and electrical hardware
- Develop verification, qualification, and reliability test plans for electrical and electronics assemblies. Participate in development of laser system test plans, perform testing, and generate test reports
Preferred credentials and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields
- 10 years of experience
