Job Title:         R&D Director–NPI

Purpose:  Primary responsibility is to function as a working co-leader of the R&D department This role will be responsible for leading and developing a team, prioritizing projects and coordinating resources, maintaining company patents and licenses (in cooperation with R&D Director–Process), managing the R&D budget, developing internal and external relationships to fulfill the NPI R&D needs of the company.

Responsibilities:  . 

  1. Effectively lead and manage an R&D group focus on new product introductions (NPI).  Following are key areas of responsibility.
  2. In the area of wet coatings, product development and process will be the responsibility of this group
  3. In the area of sputter coatings, this position will partner with the Director R&D Director-Process for product development.  Process enhancements and commercialization of new coatings will be the responsibility of the R & D Director- Process. 
  4. Responsible for packaging development/changes.
    1. Work closely with management and R&D team to establish R&D goals and priorities.
    2. Fine tune and execute against a stage gate process – driving compliance
    3. Conduct and document all testing of new/changed product, process and packaging.
    4. Interact effectively with internal and external customers to provide information and education.  Interact in a manner that consistently enhances the Tru Vue brand.
    5. Develop and maintain expertise in glass and acrylic products.  Maintain a deep understanding of our coatings, processes, and capabilities.

Education and Experience: (minimum requirements)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Master’s preferred)
  • Previous R&D experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 10+ years of work experience in a technical area
  • Previous experience with acrylic (preferred) or glass
  • Demonstrated experience managing a disciplined process across functional areas
  • Business maturity and strong communication skills
  • Experience with or knowledge of wet coating and application methods (for example:  roll, spray, dip, spin, etc.)
  • Knowledge of sputter coating processes
  • Knowledge and experience with film characterization and surface analysis techniques
  • Excellent problem solving and root cause identification
  • Effective organizational skills to plan and manage multiple projects and system development
  • Leadership style is to lead and motivate others in a positive manner; coaching and developing team to achieve great goals and impact.  Collaborative nature needed and will to win.  
  • Financial acumen
  • Demonstrated experience in working with external resources for development and testing
